Background:
This scholarship is awarded by the Berkeley Student Foundation. The organization was formed by students who attend the University of California at Berkeley and who are members of the student government on the campus known as the Associated Students of the University of California.The Berkeley Student Foundation awards scholarships to students who are members of underrepresented minority groups in order to encourage diversity on the Berkeley campus.
In 2012, BSF also announced its policy to encourage scholarship applications from undocumented students, including AB-540 students.
Up to 13 scholarships are awarded each year with $1,000 credited toward tuition each year.
Eligibility:
- Candidates must belong to an under-represented minority group, including one of these categories:
- African American
- Native American
- Chicano/Latino
- Asian/Pacific Islander/Filipino
- (Asian includes the following countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam)
- Middle-Eastern/North African
- Multi-ethnic (at least one parent must be a member of one of the aforementioned groups)
- Disabled (registered with the Disabled Students Program at the University of California, Berkeley)
- Candidates must be incoming or first year students to U.C. Berkeley (Freshmen or Junior Transfers).
- Candidates must submit a timely complete application providing all of the information and materials requested.
