The University of Melbourne offers a wide array of financial aid to Asian and Chinese students in particular.

Chian Scholarship Council


To promote international collaboration the University of Melbourne, in conjunction with The China Scholarship Council (CSC), is offering PhD candidature places to excellent candidates from Chinese universities. The CSC will provide:

  • a living allowance ($20,400 pa. 2013 rate) and Overseas Student Health Cover as prescribed by the Chinese Government;
  • a return airfare between China and Melbourne by the most economical route; and
  • visa application fees.

The University of Melbourne will provide:

  • a full PhD tuition fee scholarship for up to 4 years; and
  • the possibility of competing for further financial support such as a top up to the CSC living allowance to the Australian Postgraduate Award rate ($24,653 2013 APA rate). The top up will be awarded on merit to a limited number of CSC/University of Melbourne scholarship recipients.
